Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month: The Wrap-Up

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month: The Wrap-Up

As we end Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, we’d like to emphasize that we focus on rider safety, year-round. With motorcycle registrations increasing nationwide—according to the NHTSA, doubling from 4.3 to 8.6 million from 2002–2021—we’re seeing an increasing need year over year to improve rider visibility on the road.

And we’d like to think we’re doing an okay job, but you don’t have to take our word for it.

Not only do riders feel safer—but Brake Free users have indicated that they notice cars giving them increased distance after attaching their units to their helmets, and that’s exactly what we’re going for.

Improved Visibility, In Any Condition

One of our earlier posts covered some statistics provided by the NHTSA, stating that 57% of motorcycle accidents happen during daylight hours. 97% of accidents happen during clear conditions.

We can chalk that up to a few factors: people ride during daylight more often and in nicer weather, which would make sense that the majority of crashes happen during those hours.Additionally, we can glean from that information that improved visibility isn’t just a necessity at night. It’s important to make ourselves as visible as possible to other vehicles even in the best of conditions.

100 Ultra Bright LEDs

We designed Brake Free for ultimate visibility—in any conditions. Day, night, rainy, cloudy, you name it. If you look at one of the reviews above, a customer wrote that his wife “indicated that she could see [him] 100% better” while they were both facing the sun, such that even when drivers behind you are being blinded by light: Brake Free makes it easier for them to see you.

Again, back to NHTSA stats, approximately 10% of accidents involving a motorcycle and an additional vehicle result in a motorcycle being rear-ended. While to some 10% may not seem like a massive number, without the protection of thousands of pounds of steel surrounding us when we’re on our bikes: a 1 in 10 chance of getting tapped from behind is more than we’d care to wager.

Another NHTSA study indicated that there was a “35 percent reduction of rear-impact crashes of all types” when vehicles were equipped with a center-mounted stop lamp—which is exactly what Brake Free emulates—and in turn, is exactly what we’re trying to achieve. A reduction in accidents that involve riders getting rear ended.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness, Year ‘Round

We’ve been hearing from our customers lately that they notice cars giving them significantly more room on the road after purchasing a Brake Free—and beyond that, they feel safer when they’re on the road, knowing that it’s there.

Stop by and see what everyone says for yourself, you don’t have to take our word for it… and when you’re ready: grab your Brake Free and make Motorcycle Safety Awareness month a year-round endeavor.

Ride safe, ya’ll.
